Ingredients

  • 2 tsp loose-leaf smoky black tea (or 2 tea bags)
  • 45 black peppercorns
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 3 green cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 12 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a small pot. Add spices: black peppercorns, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon stick. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Add smoky black tea and steep for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in milk and brown sugar; simmer on low heat for another 3-4 minutes.
  4. Strain the chai into mugs, discarding spices and tea leaves. Serve warm.
