Instructions

Preparing the Fry Bread

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Add Water: Gradually add 1 cup of warm water while mixing until the dough forms.
  3. Knead Dough: Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth.
  4. Rest Dough: Let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Shape Dough: Divide the dough into balls and roll each into a flat round shape using a rolling pin.
  6. Fry Bread: Heat oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Fry each piece of dough until golden brown on both sides, turning with tongs.

Cooking the Meat and Beans

  1. Brown Ground Beef: In a skillet, cook 1 pound of ground beef over medium heat until browned.
  2. Add Onions: Add 1 chopped onion and cook until translucent.
  3. Add Beans and Seasoning: Stir in 1 can of kidney beans (drained and rinsed), 1 packet of taco seasoning, and 1 cup of water. Simmer until the mixture thickens.

Assembling the Tacos

  1. Place Fry Bread: Place a piece of fry bread on a plate.
  2. Add Filling: Spoon the meat and bean mixture onto the fry bread.
  3. Add Toppings: Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
