  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (Cheddar or Gruyère)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Fresh chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. Layer sliced potatoes in the bottom of the pan.
  3. In a bowl, mix heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, garlic, and thyme.
  4. Pour some cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with cheese. Repeat layers until ingredients are used up.
  5. Drizzle melted butter over the top layer of cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; remove foil and bake for another 30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan; garnish with chives.
