Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and ground ginger. Set aside.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add minced garlic to the skillet and stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Add ground beef and cook for 3-5 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the soy sauce mixture and green onions. Let it simmer for about 2 minutes.
  • Serve over steamed rice, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust spice levels by increasing or decreasing crushed red pepper flakes.
  • For a healthier version, substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Serve with rice, noodles, or lettuce wraps for a customizable meal.
