Description

Hamburger and Potato Bake is a comforting, creamy, and cheesy casserole made with layers of seasoned ground beef, thinly sliced potatoes, and a rich sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the ground beef for 5-7 minutes until crumbly. Drain excess grease.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
  • In a greased 2-quart baking dish, layer:
    • ⅓ of the sliced potatoes
    • ⅓ of the soup mixture
    • ⅓ of the cooked ground beef
  • Repeat layers twice more, finishing with the remaining soup mixture on top.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 to 1½ hours until potatoes are tender.
  • Remove foil, sprinkle with cheddar cheese, and bake uncovered for another 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Thinly slice potatoes (⅛ to ¼ inch thick) for even cooking.
  • Ground turkey or sausage can be used instead of beef.
  • For extra creaminess, stir in ½ cup sour cream to the soup mixture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
