- 1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs

- 1 teaspoon salt
For the German Chocolate Frosting:
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 egg yolks
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut
Instructions
Make the Brownies:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch pan with non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together cocoa powder and oil until combined.
- Add softened butter and mix until smooth.
- Stir in granulated sugar and mix for 1 minute.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add flour and salt, mixing just until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Let the brownies cool completely before adding frosting.
Make the German Chocolate Frosting:
- In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, egg yolks, and evaporated milk over medium heat.
- Stir constantly for about 5 minutes, until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, chopped pecans, and shredded coconut.
- Let the frosting cool completely before spreading over the brownies.
Assemble the Brownies:
- Once the brownies have fully cooled, evenly spread the German chocolate frosting over the top.
- Slice into squares and enjoy!
