Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Wontons

  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil, divided
  • 14 ounces shiitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag frozen wontons (Trader Joe’s mini chicken cilantro or Costco wontons work well)
  • 12 cups chicken broth (adjust based on desired consistency)
  • ½ cup teriyaki sauce
  • 12 tablespoons chili crisp

For the Sweet and Spicy Cream Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon rice vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame oil

Toppings

  • Green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Wontons

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon sesame oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced shiitake mushrooms and sauté until softened (about 3 minutes).
  3. Stir in grated garlic and cook for another minute.

Step 2: Cook the Wontons

  1. Add frozen wontons directly to the pan.
  2. Pour in 1–2 cups chicken broth and ½ cup teriyaki sauce.
  3. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes, until the wontons are heated through.

Step 3: Crisp the Wontons

  1. Remove the lid and increase heat to medium-high.
  2. Add remaining 2 tablespoons sesame oil and pan-fry wontons until crispy on both sides.
  3. Drizzle with 1–2 tablespoons chili crisp.

Step 4: Make the Sweet and Spicy Cream Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, honey, sriracha, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
  2. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving to blend flavors.

Step 5: Assemble and Serve

  1. Transfer crispy wontons to a serving platter.
  2. Sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds.
  3. Serve with the sweet and spicy cream sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Adjust chili crisp for desired spice level.
  • If you prefer a lighter version, air-fry or bake the wontons instead of pan-frying.
  • For extra crispiness, let the wontons drain on a wire rack instead of paper towels.
  • Wontons can be frozen before frying for meal prep—just add an extra 2-3 minutes to the cooking time.
