For the Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup diced onion
- 4 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 28-ounce can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- Black pepper to taste
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ¾ cup water
For the Lasagna:
- 1 pound lasagna noodles
- 24 ounces ricotta cheese (part-skim or whole)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
- Black pepper to taste
- ⅛ teaspoon grated nutmeg (optional)
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add onions and cook until softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Brown the ground beef, drain excess grease, and stir in tomato sauce, seasonings, and water. Simmer for 20 minutes.
- Make the Ricotta Mixture:
- Combine ricotta cheese, beaten egg, kosher salt, pepper, nutmeg, Parmesan, and parsley in a bowl. Mix until smooth.
- Cook the Lasagna Noodles:
- Boil the noodles until al dente or soak in hot water for 30 minutes. Drain and dry.
- Assemble the Lasagna:
- Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
- Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, and sauce. Repeat layers and finish with sauce and mozzarella.
- Bake:
- Cover with foil sprayed with cooking spray. Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
