  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Zest and juice of 1 large orange
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture along with boiling water; mix until smooth.
  5. Stir in the orange zest and juice then fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
