  • 1 lb elbow macaroni
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt (to taste)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp melted butter for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook the macaroni in salted water until al dente, about 7 minutes; drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour to create a roux, then gradually add milk and cream while stirring until thickened.
  4. Stir in seasonings along with cheddar and mozzarella until melted.
  5. Combine pasta with cheese sauce, pour into baking dish, top with any additional cheese or breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
