Steak & Marinade:
- 2 New York Strip Steaks (6–8 oz each)
- 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tsp liquid smoke
- 1 tbsp melted butter (optional)
Homemade Steak Rub:
- ½ tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp brown sugar (or sugar substitute)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp chili powder
- Salt & black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prep the Steak: Pat dry and drizzle with soy sauce and liquid smoke.
- Season: Mix spice rub and coat both sides of steak. Let it sit for 10-30 minutes (optional).
- Preheat Air Fryer: Set to 370°F (190°C).
- Cook: Place steak strips in a single layer. Air fry for 5-8 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Check Doneness: Use a meat thermometer (125°F for rare, 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium, 155°F for medium-well, 160°F for well-done).
- Glaze & Rest: Brush with melted butter or honey glaze. Rest for 3-5 minutes before slicing.
- Slice & Serve: Cut against the grain for tenderness. Enjoy!

- For a spicier version: Add ½ tsp cayenne pepper to the rub.
